The Microprocessor-Homepage

The Results were taken from the SPECS95-Benchmark of the SPEC-Homepage.
We didn´t took the SPECS2000-Benchmark because there are only a few results in the first quarters of the year 2000.

Abb 1: As you can see the Performance of the Microprocessors has become 6times faster in five years. The rate has changed to 1.16x per year.

The result is different to the diagramm 1.1 in Patterson/Hennesy´s Computer architecture (Growthrate between 1.35x per year and 1.58x per year). This is because we choose the SPECS95-benchmark instead of the SPECS92 which was propably used in the book. It shows that the highend microprocessors do not become faster as in the former five years. It doesn´t have an exponential growthrate any more but more a linear one. This gave a chance to the more popular processors like Intel Pentium III or the AMD´s ATHLON to get closer to the top and finally (end of 1999) get the best results in some benchmarks( for example the pure SPECS95int-benchmark without correction).
