"Location-based system TIP: Challenges of a multi-facetted project"

This talk will give an overview about the TIP project: TIP is a location-based system that is used, amongst other things, for mobile tourist information. The TIP core provides personalized information to travelers depending on their location and their personal preferences. In addition, the system supports several modular services, e.g., for delivering travel recommendations, for travel planning on the go, and for different display options. TIP uses a rich context model to personalise the information selection and delivery. TIP has a mobile infrastructure with an event-based communication layer to support continually changing information.

The challenges in the TIP project are manifold: personalization; context modeling, observation, and adaption; multi-modal information delivery; event-based communication between services; limiting hybrid network architectures; privacy; complex user interaction design; and so forth. Within the presentation, the scientific foundations of the TIP project will be introduced.

Several of the current design decisions will be explained as well as a discussion of future challenges and new ideas.
