Der Microsatellit BIRD und sein Controlcomputer und Software

The micro satellite mission BIRD demonstrates the technical and programmatic feasibility of the combination of ambitious science and new, not yet space-proven advanced technologies under fixed budget constraints. The demonstration of new micro satellite technologies is one key point of the BIRD mission.

The spacecraft bus is controlled by the dependable board computer of the satellite bus running the depenable RT BOSS. To achieve a high dependability, safety, and lifetime, the board computer is formed of four identical computers (nodes).

BOSS targets ultra high dependability using a principle which the world forgot a long time ago: Simplicity. The opposite, complexity, is the root of most development errors - if you eliminate complexity, you eliminate most development errors and you can understand better the system.
