Content: This seminar will give deeper insights into various aspects of mobile communications. The focus will be on ad-hoc networking (Do we really need it? What is new?) and data transmission over 3G and 4G networks (UMTS and beyond). Further topics and ideas from students are welcome!

Criteria for successful participation: Attending the seminary actively, paper of minimum 15 pages covering the selected topic, oral presentation of approx. 45 minutes

Participants: all set - subscription phase is over!

Prerequisites: basic knowledge in Internet technologies and computer networks, Vordiplom

Literature: will be handed out plus digging into the Internet on your own

Schedule: VERY IMPORTANT! The schedule for the seminar is as follows:

Handing out the topics, choose your favorite until Oct. 26th
Check the material, discover new articles, collect more information, compile a first index of you final article until Nov. 16th.
Write the first, but complete version of your article, 15 to 20 pages with a minimum of 12 pages text using a standard layout (Example for Word available: http://www.inf.fu-berlin.de/inst/ag-tech/documents/Seminarvorlage.dot. TeX may be used to). Hand in this version as .doc/.ps/.pdf no later than Dec. 20th. Failure to this requirement will exclude you from the seminar!
Meeting in January to discuss topics like presentation techniques, style guidelines etc. together with members of other seminars (e.g. databases), return of corrected articles.
Make the necessary corrections/enhancements to your article and design your presentation (e.g. PowerPoint) for a presentation with a projector. Hand in your presentation (as .PPT or .PS or .PDF) and the final version of the article (as .DOC or .PS or .PDF) no later than February 1st, 2002.
Direct feedback for the presentation - please come to me with the presentations early enough! Make the requested changes and enhancements.
Seminar: max. 45min oral presentation, we start Feb 4th, 9:00h (to avoid collisions with the exams). All participants of the seminar have to participate actively - otherwise a seminar is useless! Please note the deadlines - all contributions will be distributed ahead of the presentations.

Location: The seminar will take place in the multimedia room K40, Takustr. 9.

I know that the schedule sounds restrictive: all deadlines are firm and cannot be shifted (otherwise the schedule collapses). Long term experience shows that without firm deadlines students tend to shift work load... Thus, as a final consequence: missing a deadline means no credits for the course!
