Using rules in the Semantic Web has drawn considerable attention. On the one hand, rules help to transformational implementations of the OWL semantics; on the other hand, OWL is extended with rules to add more expressive power. SWRL is a W3C proposal to combine rules with OWL ontologies, which can be straightforward transformed and appended to Jess rule bases, while the predefined Jess rules serve as translating OWL ontologies and making hidden knowledge explicit. Alternatively, an engine for SWRL rules in RDF graphs provides reasoning over RDF Schema taxonomies plus SWRL rules. However, the full implementation of SWRL reasoning is still being investigated, and future versions will consider more supports for OWL reasoning with less workarounds.
