Minkowski sums

Abstract: Let Q be a polytope with N edges. We construct an affine scheme M_Q in C^N that reflects the possibilities of splitting Q into a Minkowski sum of other polytopes. The construction uses symmetric polynomials in N variables and has applications in the deformation theory of toric singularities.
