Konvexe Polyeder und differenzierbare Mannigfaltigkeiten
Abstract:
Kolloquium - 16 Uhr s.t.

Polynomials on polytopes and intersection homology of toric varieties
Abstract:
The g-numbers of a polytope P are the dimensions of the
intersection homology groups of an associated toric variety XP. They depend only on the face lattice of P, and provide a rich set
of nonnegative invariants for polytopes. The IH groups themselves have been
much harder to understand, but recent work of Bartel, Brasselet, Fieseler
and Kaup gives a simple construction of the groups in terms of
certain modules over rings of polynomials on the faces of P.
We will show how their construction allows certain important
equalities and inequalities among the g-numbers to be "lifted" to injections, pairings, exact sequences, etc. among the
IH groups, in an effectively computable way.
